How Do I Remove A Large Amount Of Paint On My House Brick Walls? Please Help?

Whoever lived in my house before me decided to paint a section of my house at the back with a horrid yellow colour. I’m willing to have a go and get it all off myself but i’m not sure of what i will need to buy.
If someone could tell me exactly what i will need it would be much appreciated
I just want the normal brick colour back x

kimberley h say : Paint stripper or nitromors will remove it.
beware its nasty stuff. wash it off after with lots of water.

pmc123 say : Restoring painted brick back to its original condition is not likely to happen. If you use paint stripper, you can get off the bulk of the paint, but I’m afraid the nooks and crannies in the brick will hold the paint. If you sandblast to remove it, the brick will be left porous and will need to be sealed (more paint or a cement/stucco finish).

hawk-eye say : Hot air blower – these things are really dangerous – and a scraper. Do it brick by brick. It will take forvever… but if you try and cheat and use paintstripper the solution goes into the edge of the birck and leaves a white residue. Also, check that the bricks are worth exposing . . . do one or two as a test. There may be a reason they were painted over, they are not necessarily the same bricks as elsewhere on your property.

debbie say : As has been said, it is very difficult to remove all the paint back to the original colour of the brick.
It will never look the same.
So why don’t you just go with painting the brick a different colour?? One that you like?
Make sure there are no loose flakes etc, give it a good brush down. If it needs sealing, use pva glue.
1 part, to 5 parts of water. Allow to fully dry. This will also help the adhesion of the new paint. And make sure you use maisonary paint. There are many colours available. You can make a feature of the wall. Add trellis etc.
