Home Stager – Interior Decorator – Interior Designer – What is the difference between them?
In Toronto and Suburbia (where I live and work) we are lucky to have a large number of service industries that cater to homeowners. We home stagers, interior decorators, interior designers, color consultants, designers again, home staging consultants live and so on. With so many closely related service companies that can leave consumers feeling very confused and doubts about the service that best suits your needs. I will try everything possible to briefly explain the main differences between some of these services to make your job easier.
Home Staging:
Home stagers are part of the real estate industry (not the decorating industry, as many believe). Its main objective is to make your home as attractive and desirable to potential buyers as possible. A quick sale for top dollar is the motivation and inspiration behind their choice of decor. The houses are striped of their personality. Belongings are carefully edited and minimized. The color combinations are neutralized and decorations are updated to appeal to buyers today (more specifically the markets). They may recommend to the grades or home renovations that will bring a good return on the dollar and be in harmony with the demands of the current buyer, but its role here is usually one of a consultant, since most lack the education and skills required to design and manage a renovation project).
If you are looking to sell your home these are the people to call, even before you call your realtor. A word of warning though; Home of the phase is a regulated industry. So do your home work first. Make sure the Home Stager to hire has been properly trained and is part of an affiliation with a trade that makes them responsible for their work and business conduct. Examples of Home Trade Affiliations test are: Real Estate Staging Association (RESA), ProfessionalsTM test certificate (SPC), accredited testing ProfessionalsTM (ASP).
STOP HOME CONSULTANTS-of-life (also known as Re-Design)
You'll see this service offered by some Interior stagers. It is similar to home test to sell, but to the homeowners personality in the decor will be encouraged not eliminated. This service is also similar to the decoration, but there is increased emphasis on the issue of space. Sets tend to be more minimalist and neutral color combinations (palettes of decor, although the current trend among decorators and designers now also quite neutral). Most test equipment to Consultants-Live (or re-design consultants) are not formally trained in the disciplines of interior design to be very careful when choosing one. Some homeowners will hire the stager you use to sell your home to decorate their new one. This is a good bet as they are already familiar with his work and his style.
Interior decorators:
Interior decorators often have deep experience in window treatments, textiles, color, paint, walls, furniture and antiques. Unlike Home stagers, their role is to fill the homes with personality (the personality of the owners). Many liken to interior decorators-self an artist. His canvas is the empty room of her artistic medium is painting, fabrics, furniture, carpets, wallpaper, accessories and art. Once again an unregulated industry (mostly, but that is changing) to do your homework and choose decorators who belong to a membership of trade as the Canadian Decorators Association (CDEC) or certified International interior decorators (CID) .Educational requirements for trade affiliations varies but usually a college diploma 2 to 4 years (degree) is required.
If you are decorating your space for your own enjoyment and plan to stick mostly to the design surface (rather than changes in the architecture), then they are the ones to call.
Interior Design:
The criteria to be called an "Interior Designer" varies from one province to another (one State to another). Overall however, an interior designer is a person who specializes in designing architectural interiors and furniture. Although evolved from the interior is much more complicated discipline that requires a good knowledge of architecture, product design, development, CAD, commercial (contract) the design, building codes and other requirements regulations. Most interior designers, decorators housing industry, including the Interior and as such offers all the services of an interior decorator offers. To find a qualified Interior Designer check out the trade affiliations as the Association of Interior Designers of Ontario registration (Dry), ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Educational requirements for membership of these and other affiliations of trade can be very broad that it requires a level of 3-4 years of recognized design school, followed by 3 years learning and, finally, law students writing and pass an entrance examination (as they are required to write the bar exam).
If you have a complete make-over decoration, including architectural modifications or custom design work, then they are the ones to call.

It really wouldn’t surprise me if the staircase didn’t cost more then $300000; it’s pretty much made entirely out of glass except for the hand rails and the metal connectors. Also the glass in the cube probably cost less since it doesn’t have to support the weight of people walking on it like the stairs do.
